PROJECTS

2011 - Present: “A Power Efficient and Flexible Mote-on-a-Chip for Wireless Sensor Networks”

This project is a collaboration between XJTLU (China), the University of Liverpool (UK), the University of Seoul (South Korea) and University College Cork (Ireland). This project will design a power efficient and flexible mote-on-a-chip platform which provides optimal support for common WSN functionality, with no redundant features and a rich interface between the hardware and software layers.

2010 - Present: “TEPAWSN: An Integrated Methodology for the Developing Sensor Networks Using Formal Methods”

This project is a collaboration between XJTLU (China), the University of St. Andrews (UK) and the University of Liverpool (UK) and addresses the problem of developing formal methods to specify, analyze and develop WSN applications.

2009 - Present: “Software Technology for Adaptable Distributed Middleware (STADiUM)”

The STADiUM project addresses the problem of providing end-to-end middleware support for wireless sensor networks. This project has resulted in a suite of middleware tools including LooCI, PMA and QARI. This project is led by the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium).

2009 - 2010: “REDE - Wireless Sensor Network Based River Monitoring”

This project applies wireless sensor network technologies to tackle the serious problems of pollution and river monitoring in the city of Sao Carlos in Brazil. This project was a collaboration between Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (China), the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil) and the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium).

2008 – 2009 : “Isis – Protecting Children in Online Social Networks”

The Isis project built on our previous work to provide a framework to prevent the abuse of children in digital communities such as chat, P2P and social networking systems. This project was a collaboration between Lancaster University (UK) and the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (UK).

2007 – 2009 : “FREE – Flood Risk From Extreme Events”

In the FREE project, the GridStix platform was re-deployed on the River Dee in North Wales, where it was used to evaluate the use of on-site modeling and dense sensor deployments for providing flood warnings. This project is a collaboration between Lancaster University (UK) and the Environment Agency (UK).

2005 – 2007 : “North West Grid”

In NWGRID, we developed a powerful platform for Grid-attached wireless sensor networks, called ‘GridStix’. The GridStix platform was deployed and evaluated in a flood monitoring and warning scenario on the River Ribble in the Yorkshire Dales from 2006 to 2007. This project was conducted at Lancaster University (UK).
